Terms and Conditions
Children’s Classes
Children’s classes are billed in termly blocks, typically lasting 12 weeks, although this may vary to 11 or 13 weeks depending on the school calendar. If your child joins partway through a term, you will only be charged for the remaining weeks.
The first class your child attends is usually a trial session. Please note that we do not offer refunds, credits, or carry-overs for any classes missed, regardless of the reason.
Your child’s place in a class is confirmed once the invoice for that term is paid in full. We automatically re-enrol students for the following term unless written notice is received via email at least 6 weeks before the new term starts. While we do accept verbal notice (to staff or teachers), written notice is preferred for record-keeping. Late notice may incur a £5 administrative fee, along with charges for any classes held open for your child.
Invoices are sent via email ahead of each term, with payment due within 14 days. Fees must be paid in full by the invoice due date. We may send payment reminders and apply a £5 late fee for payments up to 2 weeks overdue, with an additional £10 charged for payments up to 4 weeks late.
In the event we cancel a class your child is enrolled in, we will notify you as soon as possible. Credit will only be offered if the cancellation was within our control and a suitable alternative could not be arranged. If a cancellation is due to circumstances beyond our control, we will try to offer an alternative class. No refunds, credits, or carry-overs will be offered if your child is unable to attend the rescheduled session.
If we feel your child is ready to progress to the next level or grade, we will inform you. For ballet, tap, and modern, this often follows a class award or examination (though exams are not mandatory). For street, jazz, and acro, progression is based on ability rather than age brackets, which are only provided as a guide. All advancement decisions are made with the child’s best interests in mind.
Adult Classes
Adult classes are booked individually, and you can register online for any class on our timetable. All classes must be paid for in advance, and you must sign in with the teacher upon arrival.
We do not offer free trials for adult classes. If you wish to try a class, please purchase a single class pass.
Booking changes can be made up to 12 hours before the scheduled start time, allowing you to transfer your booking to another session. Please note that class passes are non-refundable.
Class Conduct & School Policies
At Spotlight, we strive to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. We expect all students, parents, teachers, and staff to be respectful, punctual, prepared for class, and courteous to everyone — including classmates, staff, and venue personnel.
Disruptive or inappropriate behaviour, including swearing, bullying, or aggression, is not tolerated. Repeated or serious violations may result in warnings or exclusion from the school.
Students should arrive on time, dressed in the correct uniform, with long hair tied back neatly (ballet students should wear a bun). Jewellery and watches must be removed before class. For safety reasons, students without proper attire or equipment may be asked to sit out.
Please notify us in advance if you will be late. Older students are expected to warm up independently before class starts. Late arrivals may be asked to complete a warm-up before joining the session.
If you or your child are attending other dance classes or performing externally, please inform us. This ensures training consistency and helps avoid scheduling or curriculum conflicts. If your child is enrolled in another dance school, please also inform them.
All class material, including choreography, is protected by copyright. You must seek permission from the teacher and the school before using choreography outside of class.
Fitness, Health & Safety
Dance is an excellent form of physical activity, but it can also be physically demanding. By participating in our classes, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of injury or illness, even when reasonable precautions are taken.
You are responsible for ensuring that you or your child is fit and well enough to participate. While our teachers are qualified to instruct their classes, their guidance does not substitute for professional medical or therapeutic advice. If you or your child have any medical conditions or injuries, please inform us so we can advise accordingly.
Pointe work requires years of training and preparation. We will advise you when we believe a dancer is ready, based on strength, alignment, ability, and maturity. Dancers who attend fewer than two classes per week typically will not have developed the necessary strength for pointe work.
To minimise distractions, parents and other adults are not permitted inside studios during class. Viewing opportunities will be offered at the end of the term or year. Please note that men may only enter female-only areas in emergencies.
Students are responsible for their personal belongings. We do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged items. Mobile phones and electronic devices must be silenced or turned off during class. Items causing distraction may be confiscated and returned at the end of class.
Students must not leave the studio during class without permission. If a child leaves without authorisation, we will contact you immediately. Teachers cannot be held responsible for a student who chooses to leave against instruction.
We are not responsible for your child’s care outside of their scheduled class time. Please collect your child promptly after class. If your child is not collected within 10 minutes, a late pick-up fee may be charged at the teacher’s hourly rate. Children under 16 will only be allowed to leave alone with your prior written consent.
