Modern is a fusion between Contemporary and Jazz. It provides the poise, flexibility & technique needed to become a proficient dancer. Modern classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, teamwork and self-confidence.

Spotlight & JC offer ISTD Modern classes from Primary to Advanced levels

From G6 examination upwards the students receive valuable UCAS points which can be added to university applications. Our Modern classes start from age 6 through to Advanced.

Established in 1904 the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is one of the world’s oldest and most influential dance examination boards. Ever since its inception, the ISTD has developed new styles and dance genres, and today with 12 faculties, no other dance examination board has the breadth of genres that the ISTD offers.

Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps, and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.
